It was learned from relevant agencies that on January 7, the reference price of liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased significantly from the previous trading day. The latest quotation was 5,700 yuan/ton, which was an increase of 6.21% compared with 5,366.67 yuan/ton on January 4. Compared with one month ago on December 7, 2018, the increase reached 47%, when the LNG reference price was 3,860 yuan/ton. Another reporter learned from the industry that more than 60 LNG liquid plants across the country have raised prices in the past two days. Among them, 27 LNG liquid plants raised prices by 50-400 yuan/ton on January 7.

Industry insiders believe that the increasing demand for natural gas due to the increasingly cold climate is the main factor leading to the increase in LNG prices. The weather forecast shows that from January 8th to January 10th, there will be heavy rain or heavy rain (100-110 mm) in southern Guizhou, northwest Guangxi, southern Yunnan and other places, Anhui, northern Jiangsu, Henan, central and western Hubei, and northwest Hunan There will be light to moderate snow or sleet locally, and heavy to heavy snowfall locally.

Data recently released by the General Administration of Customs shows that China’s natural gas imports in November were 9.15 million tons, of which liquefied natural gas imports were 5.99 million tons, an increase of 40.2% over the same period last year and a record high.

According to calculations by Beijing Gas Group, for every 1°C drop in winter temperatures, Beijing will need to increase the supply of natural gas by 2 million cubic meters per day, and if the temperature drops by 5°C, it will need to increase the supply of natural gas by 10 million to 20 million cubic meters per day. Beijing's natural gas consumption this winter will reach 18 billion cubic meters, an increase of 2 billion cubic meters over the previous year, a year-on-year increase of 12.5%, and a growth rate of 10 percentage points higher than the previous year.
