The 2021 Spring Summit of the China Nuclear Energy Sustainable Development Forum opened in Beijing on the 14th. At the opening ceremony, Unit 5 of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant was officially awarded the license, which marked that my country’s installed nuclear power generation capacity exceeded 50 million kilowatts.
Data shows that as of now, my country has 49 commercially operated nuclear power units with a total installed capacity of 51.027 million kilowatts, ranking third in the world. There are 19 nuclear power units approved and under construction, with a total installed capacity of approximately 20.99 million kilowatts. Since the first nuclear power unit was put into commercial operation in 1994, my country's nuclear power generation has exceeded 2.6 trillion kilowatt-hours.
"Ensuring that nuclear power safety is foolproof is the basis for supporting the continuous development of my country's nuclear power scale," said Zhang Tingke, vice chairman and secretary-general of the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association. my country has established a complete nuclear safety supervision and nuclear emergency system, and the entire industry has always adhered to the principle of safety first. Guidelines, nuclear power construction and operation have maintained good safety performance, ranking among the international advanced ranks.
It is understood that Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant is located in Fuqing City, Fujian Province, with a rated capacity of Unit 5 of 1.161 million kilowatts. As the world's first unit using Hualong One third-generation nuclear voltage water reactor technology, Fuqing Unit 5 started construction in May 2015. On January 29 this year, it completed a 168-hour full-power continuous operation assessment and met the conditions for commercial operation.
From April 14th to 16th, the 14th China International Nuclear Power Industry Exhibition was held simultaneously. The theme of this nuclear power exhibition is "Nuclear Energy Safety Development, Public Communication and Digital Transformation". (Reporter Liu Zhiqiang)
